AKA - Bethany Cemetery; Mount Paran church was started by John Glover, his wife Sarah Paschal Glover and a neighbor Mr. Sharp when they donated part of their adjoining land to form Mount Paran Church. This Indenture made this Seventh day of March in the year of our Lord, One thousand, Eight hundred and twenty four, between John A. Tharp and John Glover of the County and the State aforesaid , of the one part , and Simon Parker and John Cowan and Peter Castleberry, as Trustees for that religious denomination called Baptists designed for a place of their worship, a certain spot or parcel of their land whereon they now live, lying on either side of their dividing line, viz, beginning and cornering on a Red Oak, on said dividing , thence running into Glover\'s land to a public road and cornering on a pine, thence bounding by said road to where Glovers West line crosses the same, then cornering on a pine, thence turning North with said line the same course to a branch, and cornering on a pine, thence turning easterly following the meanders of the said branch to a Sugar Maple, and cornering on the same, thence, running South including a fine Spring and running to said dividing line between the said Tharp and Glover and cornering on a Hickory, as above named containing Seven acres more or less we the Said Tharp and Glover do each one for himself to that part attached to his own survey defend the rights thereof from myself my heirs, and all other persons whatsoever to the said denomination for a place of worship so long as they see cause to continue the same, but if the above named should at any time withdraw from or discontinue that place as a place of worship, then the Land shall revert back to said Tharp and Glover, of whoever may at the time be possessed of said Land, which they now are in possession of. John Glover Recorded November 13th, 1832 John Martin Blackstone was the first Moderator at Mt. Paran in 1825.
