This is the second oldest of three cemeteries in the town and had already been extended - named after Tayport’s original descriptive placename of ‘Ferry Port on Craig’ because of the importance of the short ferry crossing over the Tay to Broughty (Ferry) in Angus - a service which ceased in 1964 when the Tay Road Bridge opened. The oldest is the Auld Kirk within the decommissioned Church of Scotland churchyard in the town many headstones refer to internments of family members in the nearby ‘new’ location. The town was eventually renamed to suit modern sensibilities. A new cemetery was created by Fife Council in 2014 to increase capacity and opened just to the west of this position, and is simply known as ‘Tayport Cemetery’. Locals refer to them as ‘Auld’ (this one - not to be confused with Auld Kirk in the centre of town) and ‘New’ (next door). To save confusion the BillionGrave boundaries of this cemetery have simply been extended to cover the new lairs in the enlarged grounds.
