Alice Marguerite Davies (Schoonmaker)

Alice Schoonmaker Campbell Davies passed away on Wednesday, May 30, 2012 surrounded by family at St. Joseph Hospital in Kansas City, Missouri. She had been a resident of Villa St. Joseph in Overland Park, Kansas for the past 15 years following a stroke while undergoing surgery for a brain aneurysm in 1996. She was born Alice Marguerite Schoonmaker on July 25, 1925 in Hackensack, New Jersey to Dorothy Liddle Schoonmaker and Alfred Garrison Schoonmaker. She attended schools in Hackensack. She earned her BS in Commerce and Finance from Bucknell University in Lewisburg, Pennsylvania on June 7, 1947. She married William Richard Campbell from Lewisburg, Pennsylvania the following month. They resided in Tenafly, New Jersey. She is survived by five children; Susan Davies Spage of Montross, Virginia; Dr. Alice Campbell Marold of Muskego, Wisconsin; Dr. Virginia Campbell of Leawood, Kansas; Gwyneth Davies Murphy of Plano, Texas and Dr. William Richard Campbell, Jr. of Leawood, Kansas. Her surviving sister, Barbara Schoonmaker, resides in Hackensack, New Jersey. She has eight grandchildren and 6 great grandchildren, with one on the way, who she adored. She was preceded in death by her first husband and both parents on TWA Flight #260 on February 19, 1955 in Albuquerque, New Mexico; brother Ted in 1981 and sister Anne in April 2012. She married The Reverend Alfred Herbert Davies in 1969 and moved to Topeka, Kansas. They later resided in Edinburgh, Scotland from 1979-1995. Reverend Davies died in Scotland in 1983. Alice moved to Seabrook Island, South Carolina in 1995. She was very involved in volunteer work throughout her life including her church, President of the Mary Fischer Home in Englewood, N.J., Project Hope, Kappa Delta and the Lothian Victim Support Group in Edinburgh, Scotland. She was an avid world traveler. A celebration of her life and internment will be held in Doylestown, Pennsylvania this August 2012.
