Lorenzo Austin died at the home of his daughter, Mrs. H. L. Stimpson, at Cottage Grove, Saturday afternoon, shortly after one o'clock, of cancer of the bowels, aged 58 years, 7 months and 2 days
Deceased was born in Truxton, Courtland county, New York, June 2, 1849. In the year 1855 he came west with his parents, Mr. and Mrs. Amos Austin, locating in the town of Columbus, Wisconsin. When Lorenzo was a young man the family moved to Sun Prairie and this has practically been his home since.
He was united in marriage with Miss Elzina Warren, April 2, 1884, and one daughter was born to them, [Nettie] Mrs. H. L. Stimpson, at whose home he was cared for during his last illness. His wife died about three years ago, thus leaving but one surviving member of the family to mourn his loss. Besides his daughter, one brother, B. A. Austin, and two sister, Mrs. B. H. Stevens and Mrs. E. Baker, of this village survive him.
Mr. Austin's illness covered a period of perhaps a year and a half. One year ago last October he submitted to an operation for cancer of the bowels, and for sometime after he seemed much improved in health. Last October, however, the old trouble returned and after seeking treatment in the sanitarium for three weeks without benefit he was taken to the home of his daughter, where he struggled against hope to the end.
Funeral services were held Tuesday afternoon at 1:30 o'clock at the M. E. church in this village, Rev. S. Jolliffe officiating. The remains were laid to rest beside those of his deceased wife in the Burke cemetery.
