DANA, Amasa, a Representative from New York; born in Wilkes-Barre, Pa, Oct 19, 1792; attended private schools and Dana Academy, Wilkes-Barre, Pa; studied law in Owego, NY; admitted to the bar 1817 & practiced law; moved to Ithaca, NY, in 1821 & continued the practice of law; DA of Tompkins County 1823-1837; member of the State assembly 1828 & 1829; president & trustee of village of Ithaca in 1835, 1836, & 1839; elected judge of the court of common pleas of Tompkins County in 1837; elected as a Democrat to the 26th Congress (1839-1841); was not a candidate for renomination in 1840; resumed practice of law; elected to the 28th Congress (1843-1845); chairman, Committee on Expenditures in the Dpt of Navy (28th Congress); resumed practice of his profession and also engaged in banking; died in Ithaca, NY, on Dec 24, 1867; interment in Ithaca City Cemetery.
