Another old soldier, Benjamin Frear, aged 80, of Gardiner, died on Sunday morning. He served in the Mexican war, also in Company E, 156th REG, NY VOL, during the Civil War. Funeral services were held at the residence of Johannes Alsdorf on Tuesday. Eltinge Post G.A.R., No. 212, had charge of the funeral, also conducted his remains to their last resting place in New Paltz Rural Cemetery. From New Paltz Times October 5, 1892
