Davis and Lucy Downey Olney Lost Four Children in Nauvoo, Illinois

Colaborador: trishkovach Created: 1 year ago Updated: 1 year ago

Losing Four Children in Nauvoo, Illinois Davis Mc Olney purchased two lots just four blocks east of the Mississippi River bank. The family lived on lot #3 at the corner of Brattle and Durphy Streets. The second acre lot was one block north. This choice of land was a fatal choice; the Olney’s became prime candidates for the malaria and lung diseases so prevalent among those living near Marshland. Little Joseph Olney was born on August 24, 1841 and died 3 weeks later. Adaline born 1843, and Hyrum, born 1845, both died the year of their birth. The last Olney child buried in Nauvoo was sixteen year old Davis. He died August 23, 1845, a few months before the great exodus from Nauvoo began. From “Destiny’s Daughter” A biography of Lucy Anna Olney Nichols by Dorothy J Schimmelpfening 1980, p.8.
