The Untitled Tribute
The news came swiftly. It swept my world away
When they told me that you had passed away
What occurred I could hardly believe
Why did this happen? Someone tell me please!
If this was a nightmare I would wake up,
But it's reality and that makes it tough.
It didn't seem possible it could end like this.
But when you get close you take that risk.
The past is behind me, but my memories remain;
Bittersweet remembrance brings pleasure and pain.
Reality is too painful, I want to live in the past;
Where dreams come true, and friendships last.
And you were here to make it worth while.
To pull me from my troubles with a laugh and a smile.
The star that burns brightest is the first to fade.
But no one will forget the light you made.
You took it to the limit one too many times,
But you had no regrets, you enjoyed life.
You cared when nobody cared at all.
You were there to catch me when I'd fall.
When I thought my world was coming apart.
You were there to comfort my heart.
And no matter what I would do,
You were a friend through and through.
You voiced your opinions in a straight-up way.
You told it like it was day after day.
I know that we didn't always agree,
But you definitely made your mark on me.
You were such a joy to have around.
I couldn't believe this friend I'd found.
Blonde hair and electric blue eyes.
You're someone special I'll remember all my life.
Under that beauty, you had a wild side,
And you lived it up until the day you died.
And when you did the whole school cried.
We all loved you in death as much as we did in life.
I stood on a hillside, on a windy day.
A part of me died when they laid you in the grave.
I stood there feeling empty and numb.
I wanted to speak but the words didn't come.
Then I had to walk away wondering if I'd be okay.
But knowing your memory would survive day after day.
Already a legend long before you died;
Your exploits will be retold as long as your friend survives.
Each morning, in the sunrise, I'll see your smile.
And I'll stop and think of you for a while.
I'll hear you laughing and I'll know you're alright.
Rock the heavens, Janene, until we meet again in paradise.
