Deceased Name: John B. "Jack" Ernst

John B. "Jack" Ernst of New Britain went home to his maker Sunday, March 20, 2011, at his home. He was 75.

Born in Williamsport, Pa., he was the son of the late John O. and Dorothy Reese Ernst.

Jack graduated from Lycoming College with a degree in Chemistry.

He and his former wife, Nancy, moved to Doylestown in 1960 to raise their family.

Jack truly enjoyed being part of the Doylestown community. In years past, Jack was a member of the Doylestown Borough Council, and president of the Doylestown Jaycees. Jack was a longtime member of the Union Horse Company of Doylestown and participated in many Memorial Day parades in his 1952 MG TD.

An avid sports fan, Jack cherished cheering for his grandchildren in their various activities and was a passionate fan of all Philadelphia sports teams. Jack also had fond memories of his time as a coach of DAA baseball. He was passionate in his pursuits to restore the 1925 NFL championship to his father's team, the Pottsville Maroons.

Some of Jack's other favorite past times were, fly fishing on Pine Creek, a day at Long Beach Island and sharing libations with friends.

Jack was very involved with his alma mater, Lycoming College, serving as former president of the Alumni Association, Board of Trustee and football patron. Jack did not miss a homecoming from graduation in 1958 until he fell ill in 2010.

Jack's family and friends fondly remember his quick wit and wonderful sense of humor.

Jack is survived by his children, Pamela Rockafellow (Peter), John Ernst, (Meg), all of Doylestown, and James Ernst, (Lynn) of Newtown Square; and five grandchildren, Daniel and Kevin Ernst; Nick Rockafellow and Chloe and Margo Ernst; his twin brother, James of Fredericksburg, Va., brother, Joseph, of Tuckerton, N.J.; his beloved dog, Buffy; and was loved and will be missed by several nieces and nephews.
