It is our painful duty this week to announce the sudden death, on Friday morning last week, of Mr. John Beaver, of New Paltz. Mr. B. had been complaining of ill-health, but did not consider it worth while, or his illness serious enough to require the aid of a physician. He retired to bed as usual Thursday night, and arose the next morning, but again retired to bed. Sometime during the forenoon his son called to see him, when he found him dead in bed. A jury was summoned by Justice Roberts, who rendered a verdict "that the deceased had died from some cause to them unknown."

P.S.-Since the above was placed in type, we learn that it was eight o'clock when he went to bed Friday morning, stating at the time that he would like to see his son and wife. His son did not call until eleven AM, when he found his father as above indicated. From the New Paltz Times August 3, 1866.

Elizabeth...aged 87 , Charles H Relyea was found unconscious at the door of his boarding place at about 6 o'clock on Saturday morning, having suffered a stroke of paralysis or apoplexy. He did not recover consciousness and died at about noon. His age was 68 years. Mr. Relyea resided in our village for a time about 40 years ago. Afterwards he resided in the Springtown neighborhood and again for many years past in our village. He was a good and quiet citizen, industrious and worthy. He leaves a widow and one brother, Jeremiah Relyea of Brooklyn. From New Paltz Independent, August 26, 1904 , This is the Beaver's newer Headstone.
