Born in Muggenkrug, Ostfriesland, Hanover, Germany in 1829 and arrived in Wisconsin in 1847. Father Menke Hoepker died later that year. Farmed together with his mother Catherine, sister Mary, and brother in law Christian Stuhlmiller in Sections 1 of the Town of Madison and 31 of Burke. Parts of that farm are now the Maple Bluff Country Club and McKenna Plat subdivision. This farm was sold in 1866 and unimproved land was purchased from Charles McCormick in sections 10, 14, and 15 of Burke. Ten acres of section 10 remain with the family as of 2023. He married Angelina Scheible in 1856 and to them were born 11 children, 3 of whom died in childhood and one stillborn. John passed away at home in 1907.
