Anna L. Brooks, 89, of Cedar Rapids, died Wednesday, December 21, 2011, at home.

Inurnment: Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport, Iowa. Arrangements by Murdoch-Linwood Funeral Home & Cremation Service in Cedar Rapids.

Survivors include 4 sons, Melvin Brooks Jr. of Cedar Rapids, Eugene Brooks of Hiawatha, James Nolan Brooks of Rock Island, Illinois, and Paul Anthony Brooks of Cedar Rapids; 11 grandchildren; and a host of great, great-great-grandchildren, nieces, nephews and foster children through the years.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Melvin Brooks, Sr.; a son, Billy "Joe" Brooks; and six siblings, Audrey Pate, Clair Etta Howard, Hazel Gooding, Paralee Cole, Emmitt Eugene Doolin Jr., and James Nolan Doolin Sr.

Anna was born January 1, 1922, the daughter of Emmitt and Lucille (Mallory) Doolin Sr. in Palmayro, Missouri. On September 5, 1937, she married Melvin R. Brooks in Rock Island, Illinois. He died in August of 2001.

She enjoyed crocheting and quilting.

ROCK ISLAND - Services for Melvin R. Brooks, Rock Island, will be 11 a.m. Saturday at Knox-Larson Funeral Home, Rock Island. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Visitation is 6-8 p.m. Friday at the funeral home. Mr. Brooks died Tuesday, Aug. 21, 2001, at Trinity Medical Center-West Campus, Rock Island, after a sudden illness. He was a custodial engineer at the Rock Island-Milan School District, retiring in 1980 after more than 30 years of service. He was born Nov. 11, 1914, in Mexico, Mo. He married Anna Doolin in 1937 in Davenport. Memorials may be made to the family. Survivors include his wife, Anna; sons, Melvin Jr., Cedar Rapids, Iowa, Eugene, Hiawatha, Iowa, Bill, Davenport, James, Rock Island, and Paul, Rockford; nine grandchildren; 14 great-grandchildren; and a brother, Elroy, Detroit.
