Mr. John F. Denahy, III, 88 years, formerly of Lynn and Swampscott, died Saturday, May 16 in a Revere nursing home after a long illness. He was the husband of the late Marjorie A. (Healy) Denahy. He was born in Lynn, the son of the late John F and Agnes (Sexton) Denahy. He was raised in Lynn, was a graduate of St. Mary's Boys High School. Mr. Denahy lived in Swampscott from 1943 to 1992. He lived in New Hampshire and most recently he moved back to Lynn.
Mr. Denahy was a Navy veteran of WWII and served as a Yeoman, 2nd class. He served on PT Boats in the Pacific Theater. He was awarded the American Theater, Asiatic-Pacific Theater and The Philippine Liberation Medals. He was a member of the PT Boat Veterans and served as a Commander. He was a former president of the Upper Swampscott Improvement Association. He was associated with the Lieutenant Norman Prince Drum and Bugle Corps. He was also associated with the 27th Lancers Drum and Bugle Corps with whom he traveled with throughout the United States and Canada when his sons Daniel and Michael were members.
Mr. Denahy was employed as a production worker at the General Electric Company, West Lynn Plant. He retired in 1983 after 42 years of service with General Electric.
Mr. Denahy is survived by his four sons, John Patrick Denahy and his wife Joan of Saugus, Timothy C. Denahy and his wife Sheila of The Villages, Florida, Daniel J. Denahy and Diane Sarsfield of Danville, New Hampshire, and Michael J Denahy and his wife Suzanne of Swampscott. He also leaves six grandchildren Kellie Seniti of Medford, Maurine Sponagle of Nottingham, NH, Kerry Eames of Florida, Katie B. Denahy of Kissimmee, FL, Sean M. and Brian J. Denahy of Swampscott, six great grandchildren, Ashley Seniti, Samantha Seniti, Lily Sponagle, Leila Sponagle, Ryan Denahy, and Kassidy Eames and several nieces and nephews. He is the great grandfather of the late Kylee Sponagle and brother of the late Richard J. Denahy and Rita M. Denahy.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, May 21, 2009 at 5:00 PM in the Solimine, Landergan and Richardson Funeral Home, 426 Broadway (Rte 129) Lynn . Memorial Visiting hours are from 3:00 PM to 5:00 PM prior to his funeral. The family prefers donations be made to the Hospice of the North Shore, 75 Sylvan Street Suite B102, Danvers MA 01923
