Sister Mary Catherine Gahle, SSND, who had cared for children & worked in food service at institutions operated by School Sisters of Notre Dame, died Tues of heart disease at the Maria Heath Center in Towson. She was 83 & retired in 1973. Before entering School Sisters of Notre Dame in 1946, she worked as a seamstress & helped out at the rectory of St John Roman Catholic Church there, driving the priest, altar boys & nuns to the missions at Manchester & Hampstead on Sundays & often serving as a bridesmaid at weddings & godmother at baptisms. After joining the order of nuns, she was known for years as Sr Mary Antonilda but dropped her religious name when nuns were allowed to use their given names.
