Funeral services to celebrate the life of Olden Butler, Sr., 80, a resident of Davenport, will be 11:00 a.m., Saturday, June 1, 2013 at Temple Baptist Church, 3526 N. Brady St., Davenport. His family will greet friends beginning at 10:00 a.m. Saturday prior to the services at church. Burial will be in Pine Hill Cemetery, Davenport. Mr. Butler died Friday, May 24, 2013 at his home surrounded by his loving family. Halligan McCabe DeVries Funeral Home is assisting the family with arrangements.
Olden Butler was born on July 17, 1932 in Houston, Texas, a son of Sam and Mollie (Smith) Butler. Olden was raised by his mother and stepfather, Charles B. White. He was united in marriage to Ruthie B. Crockrell in 1955. Olden worked for many years at Frank's Foundry in Davenport, and retired from Alon Foundry in Moline in the mid 1980's.
Olden loved to fish, listen to the Blues, watch old western movies and wrestling, and loved his many grandchildren.
Memorials may be made to the family.
Olden is survived by his children: Olden (Brenda) Butler, Jr., Joseph Butler, Wanda Butler, Linda Butler, Ricky Butler, Rosie (Matry) Butler, Alex (Debbie) Butler, David (Tosha) Butler, Sheila Brown, Joann Butler, and Rhonda Butler; 32 grandchildren; 33 great-grandchildren, 8 sisters, 2 brothers.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Ruthie ; sons: Jeremiah Reed and Sam Butler; granddaughters, Yolanda "Pooh" West, and Emaria Butler; great-grandchildren: Joseph Sutton, Jr., Khylia and Kayleia Mims, Larry Lamont Butler, and Kobe Butler: sisters, Annabelle Butler, Ruth Orr, and Gloria Henderson: and a brother, Frank White.
