Peter W.A. Freer died at his residence in this village on Tuesday afternoon. He had not been in good health for a few years, but did not take to his bed until just days before his death. He was in his seventy-fifth year. The cause of his illness was heart disease. The lungs were also affected, he had complained of dyspepsia for a long time. Mr Freer carried on the business of fruit growing in our village for about 25 years. Previously and before his marriage he lived at the old homestead now occupied by Richard S Deyo, where his parents lived and raised a large family of children of whom the only one now surviving is Mrs JJ Van Steenburgh of Winters, Cal. Mr Freer was a man of upright character, a member of Reformed church of New Paltz and had filled the offices of deacon and elder. From New Paltz Independent April 28, 1893
