This Stone is the bottom half of a very large obelisk.

Poughkeepsie Daily Eagle, June 7, 1895:

The New Paltz Times of June 5 says, Mssrs. Van Wyck & Collins, Poughkeepsie marble workers, were here on Monday of this week engaged in putting up a large monument to the memory of the late Richard B. Davis, husband of Mrs. Lydia M. Davis, a sister of Hon. Jacob LeFever. It is the largest in the New Paltz Cemetery, and a fair sample of the work done by the above firm. In moving the different parts from New Paltz station to the cemetery it required six horses and eight men.
