He was a World War II veteran, member of the British Royal Navy, proud member of the HMS King George V, one of the battleships that hunted the German battleship Bismarck.

He retired from Barclay's Bank as an international banker in New York City. He later moved to Punta Gorda in 1992.

He was an Episcopalian.
