Viola Clark, 98, of Wellsville, passed away at her home Nov. 21, 2011. Visitation 10:00 - 11:30 am Sat., Nov. 26, 2011 at Bruce Funeral Home, 106 S Center, Gardner, KS (913) 856-7111. Graveside and burial follows at 12:00 noon at De Soto Cemetery, De Soto, KS. Memorial contributions may be made to the Wellsville Retirement Center. Viola was born Feb. 12, 1913 in rural Johnson County near De Soto to Herman Newton and Laura (Cleek) Oshel. She was the youngest of 12 children. Viola attended De Soto schools. Viola married Ferdinand M. Clark Oct. 10, 1933 in Olathe. She was a life-long area resident except for two years in the 1950's when Ferdy, Viola and family moved to Golden, CO. She was a member of New Hope Baptist Church in Wellsville, Morning Grange and Grange Ladies Quilting Club. Viola enjoyed ceramic painting and cooking-she was an excellent baker. She loved her dolls and made beautiful quilts; everything she did was perfect. Viola will be dearly missed by family and friends.
Viola was preceded in death by her husband Ferdy in 1990; son-in-law Wes Whismore and eleven siblings. She is survived by her children: Larry Joe and wife Marie Clark, Roseburg, OR, Viola Judith Whismore, Central Heights, CA and Pete and wife Mary Beth Clark, Wellsville, KS; four grandchildren: Terry, Kimberly, Laura and Clarin; nine great-grandchildren and seven great-great-grandchildren.
