OLD RESIDENT DIES SUDDENLY
John Henry Deverman was born in Hanover, Europe, March 15, 1823. He came to America in the early sixties, and settled in Chicago. His first position he secured in this country was on the LaSalle street tunnel. January 2, 1863 he married Helen Maria Seltman and after her death, he married Emilie Krueger, March 16, 1871. The latter died a year or two after her marriage and Mr. Deverman for the third time married Minnie Dreke, to whom were born 13 children.
In 1868, the deceased purchased the Ransen farm, which has been his home ever since. For forty years Mr. Deverman has been a resident of Palatine, filling his small nook in this world in a patient, retired manner, giving offense to no one, but rearing a family of children that would be a credit to him and themselves. He was a member of St. Paul's church, and was a trustee for 20 years. His sudden death by heart failure and old age. Friday afternoon, at the age of 85 years, 26 days, marked the end of the life of a man who had fulfilled his duty to God, his family and his fellow beings. The funeral was held Tuesday aafternoon from St. Paul's church, with burial in the German cemetery. He leaves to mourn their loss eight children as follows: Henry, Gehard, Herman, Bertha, Mary and Mrs. Louise Bauman, of this vicinity, Mrs. Minnie Witt, of Chicago, and Mrs. Emma Quentin of Libertyville; two stepchildren, William of Palatine and Mrs. Sophie Evans of Prairie View, and 9 grandchildren and 4 step-grandchildren. Mr. Deverman was the last of a family of four brothers and one sister. Five children preceeded him in death.
