Description

In memory of William Baron a native of this parish who fell in Battle Oct 25th 1854, Aged 30 years.

And of George Broome, his Brother in law who met a Soldiers Death at the same time and place, Aged 35 years.

They were ... in the 17th Lancers and fell in the Death Ride of Balaklava. John Baron their Brother of the same Regiment escaped unhurt from the same Desperate Charge.

Charge! was the Captains cry;

Theirs not to make reply,

Theirs not to question why,

Theirs but to do or die.

Into the Valley of Death

Rode the Six Hundred.

Honour the Brave and Bold!

Long shall the Tale be told,

Yea, when our Babes are old,

How they rode onward.

For Thou hast girded me with strength unto the Battle.
