William Charles Buckland was christened 28 Sep 1856 at Upavon, Wiltshire, England, United Kingdom. His parents Charles Buckland, a shepherd & Anna (also known as Hannah/Elizabeth) nee Andrews could read but could not write. The couple emigrated with infant William Buckland on the ship Sabrina departed Southhampton 24 Jan 1857, arrived Vic 14 April 1857. By 1862 William lived with family at at Templestowe township where his parents lived for about 50 years - the family home at Lot 6 (Section 2) James Street, Templestowe, near the Yarra River, went up for sale in 1907 following the death of William's mother Hannah, the property is described in a 1907 press article, with a 4 roomed weatherboard cottage, sheds, quince orchard. William married Hannah Letitia Oakley, a daughter of James Oakley, a bullock driver at Forbes Mill, & Hannah Letitia nee Cummings in 1887 at Briagolong, Vic. By 1898 William & Hannah lived in Toora, Vic - they had a dairy farm in Toora, William took an active role in the Toora Council & dairy farmers meetings. We believe they lived in Toora until their deaths in 1940 & 1945 respectively.
